Alessandro Teoldi

Born in Milan, Italy, Teoldi now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Since receiving his MFA in Photography from Bard College, New York, Teoldi has been the subject of several solo and group exhibitions, including Capsule Shanghai; Marinaro in New York; and The Cabin in Los Angeles.

Alessandro Teoldi seeks to make a home away from home in his art. Born in Milan, Italy, and now living and working in Brooklyn, New York, the artist has spent much of his life on airplanes, moving flats, encircled by new people. With that comes a desire to recreate the domestic space that he so craves; an environment that makes him feel comfortable.

Teoldi works in sculpture and painting, however, his patchworked blanket works have become his signature. Around the time Teoldi was travelling a lot, he started to collect the blankets passengers were given on long-haul flights. It got Teoldi thinking about the sense of comfort and security that, when miles high in the air, a square of textile can give you. Bringing these blankets back to his studio, Teoldi began cutting them into various shapes and hand-stitching them into collages of figures. Others present us with close-ups of hands, heads, or torsos.
