Alice Faloretti

Faloretti lives and works in Brescia, where she was born. Walks in the Italian countryside have become a significant source of inspiration for the landscapes she paints. Since receiving her MFA from the Venice Academy of Fine Arts, Faloretti has been the subject of several solo and group exhibitions at Francesca Antonini Arte Contemporanea in Rome; Mucho Mas! in Turin; and Palazzo Monti in Brescia.

Alice Faloretti creates alternative landscapes by breaking up existing ones. She starts with found photographs—of mountain ranges, clifftops, rock pools, or forests—that are plastered around her studio, to which she will make preliminary sketches collaging the various imagery together. Canvas prep follows, pouring large swathes of oil and turpentine around the surface, creating large unrefined forms on which she can build her imagined landscapes. Pencil will then rework the shapes on the turpentine soaked-canvas, styling her ambiguous, hidden forms into an unfamiliar place yet to be discovered.

Colours dance between the real and the exaggerated. Rivers may run in blue, but they are rendered with a vibrancy
reserved for the imagination of painters. The unnatural quality of the trees and rocks that cloth the mountains are exacerbated by the gaudy tones and abstract forms which they take.
