Annice Fell
Annice Fell
Born in London in 1997, Fell received her BA from Slade School of Art, before completing an MA at the Royal College of Art in 2023: two of the U.K.’s most prestigious art institutions.
Since, Fell has been the subject of numerous solo and group exhibitions in the city, notably Hovering on Edge (2024), a group exhibition featuring Willem de Kooning, Cecily Brown, and Antonia Showering, at the London blue-chip gallery Timothy Taylor.
Although frightening, sometimes you’ve just got to let go. The young British artist Annice Fell has no fear in doing just that. Her textured monoprints are motivated by the tension of the unknown inspired by decalcomania—an automatic printing technique popularised by the Surrealists.
Each linen canvas begins with applying a unique monoprint, which then—guided by instinct—will be built up, deconstructed, and manipulated by hand. Control is relinquished and instinct kicks in; an impulsivity which continues into her dynamic interplay of oil pastel and painting.
Her puzzles of form and colour seek to balance the interconnectedness of body, space, and time where personal meanings emerge as the paintings progress.
